If that doesn’t work, you can also try with a good pair of earphones, but that’s really risky and requires a lot of dexterity.

To test a doorbell transformer without a multimeter, a need a doorbell transformer with a removable secondary coil. This is a very common type of transformer used in doorbell circuits, and if the secondary coil is removable, you can simply inspect it with your eyes.

This is much easier than using a multimeter, and if the secondary coil looks burnt or damaged, it is likely that the transformer is damaged and should be replaced before the entire system is installed.

A better way is to use a multimeter’s continuity test mode to check the transformer’s leads for resistance and to use its voltage measuring function to check the transformer for proper voltage output.
