How Can You Identify If Your Car Sensor is Bad?

Below are the necessary steps you need to follow to test your car sensors with a multimeter. 

To test for continuity, do the following:

  1. Remove all the wires for the car sensor. 
  2. Insert the black lead into the COM port on the meter and insert the red lead into the VΩ port. 
  3. For the third step, set your digital multimeter to the Continuity setting.
  4. Connect the red lead to the + wire connecting to the sensor. Connect your black lead to the sensor’s ground wire. 
  5. The circuit wiring is intact and well if your digital multimeter registers a reading. If it doesn’t, it means there’s something wrong with the wiring. 

To test for the voltage, do the following:

  1. Reconnect the power source to the sensor. 
  2. Remove the power wires at the sensor. 
  3. Keep the same probe—multimeter connections.
  4. Put the red probe to the incoming + wire, terminal, or pin. Then connect the black probe to the terminal, pin, or ground wire.  
  5. Choose the DC value on the meter closest to you but bigger than the source voltage.
  6. Turn on your power source. 
  7. Confirm the sensor’s voltage is within the range specified in the user manual.
